São Paulo – Brazilian biscuit exports were up 14% in quarter one (Q1) this year. Export revenues stood at US$ 34.3 million in Q1, the highest sum ever for the period according to the National Biscuit Industry Association (Anib). In the same period in 2013, exports fetched US$ 29.9 million.
In Q1 this year, sales to South America accounted for the bulk of revenues (US$ 16.65 million) almost half – 48% – of total exports by the Brazilian industry. Africa was the second leading target, at 27% and US$ 9.32 million, and North America was third: 16% and US$ 5.2 million.
The leading individual buyer was Angola, followed by Paraguay, United States, Venezuela, Uruguay, Chile, Cuba, Argentina, Portugal and Bolivia. The top export products during the period were biscuits and cookies, followed by wafers and waffles.
According to material released by the Anib, the figures reflect the work carried out by the association in tandem with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). The two organizations promote Brazilian biscuits abroad under the Happy Goods brand.
Early this year, companies in the industry took part in Gulfood, a food industry show held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
