São Paulo – The first auto parts plant of the Japanese group JTEKT in Africa and the Middle East will be in Morocco. It will be built in the free trade zone of the Tanger Med port, in Tangier. The information was made public this Thursday (29) by the Tangier Mediterranean Special Agency (TMSA), the manager of the project.
The group JTEKT is one of the world’s main suppliers of innovative auto parts in the world. It’s also considered the world’s number one suppliers of of hydraulic and electric steering systems. Founded in 1921 in Osaka, JTEKT has a plant in Brazil also, in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná state.
The Moroccan plant will be built in an area of 65,000 square meters. From the country, the Japanese group will be able to sell directly to the Moroccan Peugeot and Renault plants, plus other automakers. The plant will also sell to other markets outside Morocco.
The JTKET group will be located in the Tanger Automotive City. Operations are expected to start in 2018. The project’s first phase will require EUR 15 million in investments for a annual output capacity of 230,000 units.
Currently, the Japanese group has 136 branches in 27 countries throughout the world. Its plants employs 44,000 workers and generated EUR 11 billlion in revenues last year.
