São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will host on September 21 the event Acontece Indústria: The Future of Labor (acontece is Portuguese for something taking place), created by NGO Centro de Estudos e Sistemas Avançados do Recife (CESAR, the Recife Advanced Studies and Systems Center). The discussions will revolve around employment and jobs in the future: how they will adapt to new technologies, especially in industry.
Acontece Indústria will be the first of several events backed by the Arab Brazilian Chamber and focusing on innovation, technology and creativity. “These are subjects that will be ever more present in discussions involving the Arab Chamber and its members,” says Marketing coordinator Juliana Burza.
From 2018 on, the Chamber will work on a lecture cycle covering subjects such as disruptive innovation, industry 4.0, and the internet of things, which are already becoming part of the corporate day-to-day. The intention, according to Burza, is to help Chamber member companies manage their business amid the shifting scenario:
“We mean to help them in new product development and in reaching new markets, especially when it comes to exports, as well as tailor these contents to dealing with Arab countries. The CESAR event is a preview of what we have in the works for 2018,” she explained.
Eduardo Peixoto, the chief business executive with CESAR, explains that Acontece Indústria will cover themes like business automation. “We don’t mean just robots, but subtle changes in work processes. Much of the tasks now performed by humans can be automated,” he says.
This shift, which leads to increased productivity, makes for faster development of new technologies, but ultimately causes people to lose their jobs, and it takes time for them to find another position. “The event is designed to raise questions regarding this disquieting scenario,” the executive says.
The Walid Yazigi Auditorium, on the 11th floor of the building where the Arab Chamber headquarters are located, will welcome speakers including the secretary for Innovation and Business of the Brazilian Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, Marcos Vinícius de Souza, the executive manager of German-based company Festo, Victor Teles, the McKinsey Global Institute partner Patrícia Ellen, CESAR’s systems architect Fábio Maia, Porto Digital founder and advisor José Carlos Cavalcanti, and Eduardo Magrini, a researcher at the Technology and Society Center of think tank Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).
O CESAR holds two major events per year, covering subjects relating to healthcare, education, entrepreneurship and industry. Acontece Indústria will have its fifth-ever edition, and its second in São Paulo. “Industry-related subjects just naturally gravitate to São Paulo,” Peixoto explains.
Arab Chamber president Rubens Hannun believes that holding the event in the premises is important to its partnership with CESAR. “We are open to partnerships like this one, to bring management-related content to our members,” he says.
Registrations are available on the CESAR website. The first batch of tickets is available until Friday (8) for BRL 250 and for BRL 300 from Saturday (9) onwards. Arab Chamber members get a discount.
