São Paulo – Last week saw the beginning of the Abu Dhabi Summer Season (ADSS), with discount sales available in 20 local malls. The discount fest is designed to bring in domestic and international tourists, and hotel discounts are also included.
ADSS will last through August 18. This is the hottest time of year in Abu Dhabi, with temperatures exceeding 41 degrees Celsius. July and August are also the time of school holidays in the UAE.
Gulf News reported that discounts are as high as 80% at major Abu Dhabi malls: Marina Mall, Yas Mall (pictured above), Khalidyah Mall, Deerfields, Dalma Mall, Bawabat Al Sharq, Al Wahda Mall, Hili Mall, WTC Mall, Al Raha Mall, City Mall, Al Ain Mall, Al Foah Mall, Mushrif, Mazyad, Madinat Zayed, Bawadi Mall, Barari Mall, Ruwais Mall and Jimi Mall.
Four Nissan Patrols, three Patrol SE V6s and one Patrol Titanium supplied by Al Futtaim Motors will be raffled. For every AED 250 spent, buyers will get coupons for the raffle and other prizes, including luxury dinners in Abu Dhabi.
By spending AED 1,000, consumers can also join a game, Unbox the Amazing, starting on June 29, with additional discounts in goods and services. The game will be available at eight malls during the weekends: Marina Mall (June 29, 30), Khalidyah (July 6, 7), Deerfields (July 13, 14), Dalma (July 20, 21), Bawabat Al Sharq (July 27, 28), Al Wahda (August 3, 4), Hili (August 10, 11) and WTC (August 17, 18).
ADSS is held by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Department of Economic Development. DCT Abu Dhabi Tourism Sector executive director Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri said the campaign is intended to attract national and foreign families. Fifty hotels across the emirate are offering 15% to 50% off in their rates.
The campaign began on June 21, but discounts are not available from all establishments and for all services at all times (find out more on ADSS). The discount fest also includes travel agencies and art and culture events, including international concerts. Gulf News said the initiative is in line with Abu Dhabi’s efforts to see 5.5 million visitors this year and increase hotel occupancy rates.
