Children watch the creation of a sculpture bearing the message “Welcome, Ramadan” in the sands of Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday (17), one day before the start of Ramadan on Wednesday (18). The sculpture was created by Palestinian artist Yazeed Abu Jarad. Ramadan is the holy month of Islam, during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and gather at night for communal meals. The period ends about 30 days later with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
