São Paulo – The Brazilian agribusiness sector exported a total of US$ 3.75 billion in July, or 44.5% more than in the same period last year. This total was a historic record for the month of July, according to information supplied today (09) by minister of Agriculture Roberto Rodrigues.
The sector trade balance surplus for Brazil was US$ 3.36 billion, or 51.5% more than in July 2003. This was the second best result in the sector since 1989, when the ministry started publishing these statistics.
The best sales performances was registered in soy complex sales (grain, ground, and oil), meats, coffee, sugar and alcohol, wood, dairy products, and cotton.
In the period from January to July, Brazilian sector export has already generated US$ 22.25 billion, showing a growth of 37.2% as against the same period last year. The accumulated surplus was US$ 19.45 billion, or 44% more than that registered in the first seven months of 2003. Minister Rodrigues believes that the trade balance surplus should exceed US$ 30 billion by the end of the year.
In the last 12 months, the sector has already shipped the equivalent to US$ 36.67 billion, and the Brazilian trade balance surplus has accumulated US$ 31.8 billion.
