São Paulo – The UAE’s Al Ain Zoo is accepting entries as of this Thursday (25) for its Zoography photo contest. Natives and non-natives are eligible. The best photographs taken at the zoo in Al Ain, a city within the emirate of Abu Dhabi, will win prizes.
Now entering its seventh edition, the contest is intended for professionals and amateurs alike. Black-and-white and color categories are available, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported. Prizes coming out to AED 100,000 (roughly USD 27,000 at the current exchange rate) will be awarded.
WAM reported that last year, the contest saw 3,000 entrants from the UAE and abroad. Non-local participants were mostly from within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Europe, East Asia and Africa. Most of the photos were of giraffes, leopards, African lions, flamingos and meerkats.
Photos must be 2 MB-5 MB in size and 300 DPI or higher in resolution. Each entrant can submit up to three photos per category. Minimal editing and digital manipulation is allowed, provided that the photos are kept authentic. Photos entered in past editions or taken with mobile phones will not be accepted.
The Al Ain Zoo will reserve the right to use the photographs in any and all places and languages. WAM reported that the zoo has brought together a panel of judges on the basis of their background in photography, prizes won in past contests and past experience in panels. Winners will be announced in December.
Al Ain Zoo Marketing and Corporation Communication director Omar Yousef Al Blooshi told WAM that the contest will feature the same categories as last year, thereby enabling entries that showcase the diversity of wildlife through visual art. Founded in 1968, the zoo is home to 4,000 animals and 200 species.
Entries for the Zoography contest will be accepted until November 25 via email at zoography@alainzoo.ae. For more on the contest, call +971 2 800966.
