São Paulo – The agricultural technology fair Agrishow, scheduled for April 25 to 29 in Ribeirão Preto (316 km from São Paulo) will welcome 17 foreign buyers to business matchmaking, among them two from Algeria and two from Egypt. In addition to the Arab countries, importers from Canada, Colombia, USA, Ethiopia, Mexico, Kenya, Senegal, Thailand and Zimbabwe will also hold meetings with Brazilian companies.
The foreigners will meet with manufacturers of machinery and agricultural equipment, including irrigation. The initiative is part of the Brazil Machinery Solutions program, carried out by the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (Abimaq) and by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and created to promote exports among the sector’s companies.
According to Klaus Curt Müller, Abimaq’s executive director for Foreign Markets and manager of the Brazil Machinery Solutions program, the participation of Arabs in Agrishow 2016 is the result of a research that selected the region as one with great potential for the import of the sector’s products. Last year, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce suggested buyers from Arab countries and this participation by the organization was rated as very positive by the Brazilian companies that struck deals with them.
“Normally, the markets of Arab countries are hard to enter and an international business matchmaking sessions allow the contact with buyers, the setting up of an agenda and the schedule of meetings for business”, said Müller to ANBA, via email, emphasizing that it will be an excellent opportunity to intensify trade relations with the Arab countries. In this edition of the fair, the Arab Chamber worked with the selection and invitations to the Arab world’s importers.
According to data given by the executive director, last year the Arab countries imported USD 466 million in Brazilian machinery and equipment. The region bought from the country especially steel pipes and road machinery. The former accounted for half of the purchases, with the latter reaching 24.8%.
“The Arab market of agricultural machinery and equipment totals USD 1.4 billion and, thus, is a significant potential market”, said Müller. He places this number side by side with the USD 1.2 billion representing Brazil’s total amount of exports of agricultural machinery and equipment. Therefore, the executive believes that the Arab countries together are an important expansion area for the Brazilian industry. And also points out that Brazil has a tradition exporting these products.
Agrishow’s business matchmaking is scheduled from April 25 to 28. More than 300 meetings should take place. Last year, the same initiative resulted in immediate and future business of USD 17.2 million. There was a 43% increase over the previous edition and the goal of the organization is to overcome again this mark in 2016.
The program Brazil Machinery Solutions currently has 248 exporting members. Last year, the industries participating in the initiative generated revenues of USD 1.1 billion with external sales, 13% of total exports of the machinery and equipment sector, which stood at USD 8 billion. Last year, the program had more than 20 actions, such as participation in fairs and missions, among others. The United States, Argentina, Paraguay, Germany and Mexico were the main destinations.
Agrishow is one of the main agricultural technology fair in the world and it anticipates trend and technological innovations in the agribusiness. The fair is held in a 440,000 square meters place, and should welcome 160,000 visitors, with 800 brands as exhibitors from areas such as machinery, equipment, irrigation system, accessories, parts, seeds, storage and softwares.
The fair is organized by the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag), the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (Abimaq), the National Fertilizer Association (And), the Federation of Agriculture of the State of São Paulo (Faesp) and the Brazilian Rural Society. The organization is being carried on Informa Exhibitions.
