São Paulo – Brazilian trading company Alliance Commodities, of dairy, received yesterday (2nd), at Algiers International Fair, orders for 17 containers of powdered milk and infant formula for the value of US$ 1 million. The orders were closed with four Algerian distributors, three of which were contacted at the fair itself. "The expectation is to transform this US$ 1 million into US$ 12 million, exporting US$ 1 million a month," said the commercial director at the company, Marcos Goulart.
This is the first time that the trading company is participating in Algiers International Fair, which ends on Thursday (4th). "It was the first of many," said Goulart, who has already exported to the Arab country. According to him, the company offers a very competitive price and has chances to grow more in the Algerian market.
Last year, sales to the Arab country totalled US$ 22 million and, according to Goulart, the expectation now, with the new distributors, is to reach 2010 with exports of around US$ 34 million. "The Algerian market is very representative to us," he said. Sales to Algeria corresponded to over 50% of exports by the trading company, which represents companies Laticínios Bela Vista and Alibra Ingredientes.
Today, Goulart hopes to meet new distributors who have already made contact in the first day of the fair. "We should close new deals," he added. The company cash cow on the Algerian market is powdered milk and, according to the director, the country has a turnover of approximately US$ 600 million in this market.
Apart from Algeria, Alliance Commodities already exports to other countries in North Africa and the Middle East. Chocolate powder, condensed milk and cheese are among the products sold by the trading company.
Alliance Commodities is one of the companies that is represented at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce stand, as well as construction company Andrade Gutierrez, Promodenta, of medical and dentistry equipment, Tigre, of pipes and connections, Madêmer Madeiras, of doors, and Biagio Turbos, of auto parts.
Yesterday, the Marketing and Foreign Trade assistants at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Filipe Ferraz and Nadia Abdallah, had meetings at the Customs and at the Algiers Chamber of Commerce and Industry to learn more about the local foreign trade legislation, to get company directories and to make new contacts to simplify the activities of the Foreign Trade Department at the Chamber.
