São Paulo – The Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brasília met this Tuesday (20th) with Sérgio Danese, secretary general and acting minister of the Ministry of Foreign Relations, to ask for the support of Brazil in the international bodies for the Palestine and Israel conflict, which worsened in the last few weeks, to be resolved.
“We discussed the serious situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. We expressed our worries and called on Brazil’s support in all of the international bodies to put an end to this ongoing slaughter, especially in Jerusalem”, said Ibrahim Alzeben, Palestine’s ambassador and dean of the council.
The restriction of Palestinian access to the Al-Aqsa mosque, in Jerusalem, and increased visitation by Jews at the Temple Mount, where the mosque is located, which is considered a sacred site by Judaism, is pointed as the main cause of the most recent conflicts between Palestinians and Jews.
According to Al Jazeera TV, from Qatar, Palestinian community leaders say that the protests are happening for the Palestinian victims of the occupation and because of the prejudice they suffer inside Israel.
“Brazil ratified its position of supporting Peace in the region and the creation of a Palestinian State”, said Alzeben. According to the ambassador, the secretary general and other Brazilian government officials that attended the meeting were “very receptive” to the Palestinian demand and willing to support the end of the conflict and a two-State solution (Palestine and Israel).
Besides Alzeben, 12 other ambassadors or chargés d’affaires of the Arab nations attended the meeting, in addition to the ambassador of the Arab League in Brazil, Nacer Alem.
