São Paulo – The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) has launched a contest to pick a design for the official uniforms of the staff for Expo 2020 in Dubai. The event has been postponed to October 2021 through to mid-2022. Apex-Brasil is responsible for the Brazilian pavilion.
The official outfit will be worn by Brazilian pavilion staff throughout the 182-day event. The uniform is expected to convey a “sense of Brazilianness” and to be “in tune with the levity and simplicity of the pavilion,” an Apex-Brasil press release read.
Entries will be accepted from Brazilian enterprises and professionals in the fields of graphic design, fashion, architecture and the like, as well as from organizations representing sectors of the Brazilian economy.
Submissions will be accepted by 11:59 pm on September 30, 2020. Each submission must comprise 14 sketches in PDF format, and can be entered here.
Theme
Expo 2020 Dubai will be themed “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” with three subthemes – Mobility, Opportunity, and Sustainability. The themes will determine the layout of the exhibition venue, with one so-called ‘district’ each. The Brazilian pavilion is under construction in the Sustainability district.
The core theme of Brazil’s pavilion is “Together for Sustainable Development.” It will also comprise three pillars: “Together for Nature,” “Together for the Human Being,” and “Together for Tomorrow.” Pictured at the top of this page is an artist’s rendering of the pavilion.
The themes relate to the three interdependent pillars of sustainable development – economy, society, and the environment. “The core message of the Brazil Pavilion at the Expo is about showing the world a country that is open to the world, full of opportunity, modern, productive, environmentally conscious, and sustainable, Apex-Brasil Expo 2020 Project coordinator Raphael Nascimento was quoted as saying. The Brazil Pavilion will be permeated by water.
