São Paulo – To help prepare the students from Bahia that will go the United Arab Emirates for the robotics championship Formula 1 in Schools, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce held a lecture. The content was presented by Arab Chamber Information Management coordinator Marcus Vinícius (pictured above, center) to the students this Tuesday (10) at SESI in Salvador.
The students from Escola SESI Reitor Miguel Calmon will represent Brazil in the competition to run in Abu Dhabi from November 28 to December 1st. To reach the international phase, the team called SevenSpeed won the national robotics contest last March at the Festival de Ciência e Tecnologia Sesi (SESI Science and Technology Festival).
Asked by the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB), which encompasses SESI, the lecture presented the Arab countries, particularly the UAE culture and economy. “I showed what are the Arab countries, where they are. Then I talked about the UAE, facts about trade between Bahia and that country. How is their economy like, as well as their GDP and area compared to the other 22 Arab countries,” explained Vinícius, who also tackled clothing habits and behavior in the country.
The team has five seniors and one junior. “They asked several questions. I showed them a video to put everything in context. Keeping young people’s attention is quite challenging. For me, it was one of the most rewarding lectures I’ve ever given. I was quite moved when I got there because they were very eager to hear what I had to say. They showed me their project, their business plan,” Vinícius said about the project the students will present at the competition in the Arab country.
Formula 1 in Schools occurs among middle and high school students from 42 countries. The challenge’s goals include having the students manage the project and construction of a Formula 1 minicar, develop a business, marketing and social media plan, seek partnerships with the private sector, as well as creating a social action.
