São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce should promote talk “Arab Countries Opportunities in the Building Sector”, at the organisation’s offices, in São Paulo. Businessmen interested in participating in the event, which is free, should contact the Marketing Department at the Arab Brazilian Chamber.
At the presentation, the Market Development manager at the organisation, Rodrigo Solano, should cover economic and commercial aspects in the Arab countries, mainly in the Emirates and the countries of the Gulf, which have great investment opportunities in infrastructure. Solano should also speak about trade opportunities in the building sector and about how companies may make use of them.
According to figures disclose by economy magazine Middle East Business Intelligence (MEED), investment in building projects in the Arab world total US$ 470.9 billion. The main projects are in the area of civil construction, infrastructure and industry, like oil, gas and energy. Among the Brazilian products with the greatest potential for exports to the Arab countries are steel and iron rebar, wood and its products, ceramics, taps, stone, pipes and fittings and glass products.
In 2008, the countries of the Gulf imported US$ 25.6 billion in building sector products, which represented growth of 42% over 2007. According to Solano, the estimate for the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the countries of the Gulf and Yemen for the year is US$ 1.13 trillion. “Most (55%) are concentrated on industrial activities, mainly in the oil sector,” said the manager.
Last year, Brazilian sector exports to the Arab countries totalled US$ 15 million. According to Solano, the figure is low when compared to the potential that the sector imports from the world.
To present Brazilian products on the Arab market, the marketing analyst at the Chamber, Karina Cassapula, should speak about the Big 5 fair, the largest in the building sector in the Middle East, to be promoted in November, in Dubai. At the talk, Karina should present figures about the fair, where there should be a Brazilian stand organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber. She should also explain how companies may participate in the event and should speak about the most common medias in the Arab world for the promotion of products. The organisation hopes to take 27 Brazilian companies to Dubai.
General foreign investment in the countries of the Gulf this year should total US$ 36.4 billion, according to estimates by the Market Development department. In Brazil, the building industry is also heated. Among the factors that should contribute to the attraction of investment in the sector are the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Apart from that, the country has great housing projects, like the construction of one million homes for the federal government “My home, my life” program.
According to figures supplied by Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), with the Growth Acceleration Program 2, also sponsored by the federal government, the annual investment flow in civil construction may generate 137.2 billion Brazilian reals (US$ 74.2 billion) and a total of 2.83 million jobs.
