The institution’s president, ambassador Osmar Chohfi; the secretary-general and CEO, Tamer Mansour; and the regional advisor for the countries of the GCC, Iraq, and Yemen, Shaheen Ali Shaheen, visited Manama, the Bahraini capital, where they met with local business leaders this Wednesday (20).
They were received by the president of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Federation of GCC Chambers (FGCCC), Samir Nass; the secretary-general of the FGCCC, Saoud Al Mashari; and the director-general of the BCCI, Abdallah Bader Al Sada; among other executives and professionals from the entities. Chohfi, Mansour, and Shaheen agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding and invited their interlocutors to participate in a mission to the Brazil – Arab Countries Economic Forum, which the ABCC will hold in 2022 when it celebrates 70 years. They also agreed to organize an economic forum in the first half of next year, specifically aimed at Brazil’s relations with the GCC.
In this year, Brazil and Bahrain already have a trade balance of USD 1.7 billion. In the first nine months of 2021, Brazil exported USD 1.5 billion to Bahrain, mainly in ore. To a lesser extent, meat, corundum, petroleum coke, pipes, and other products were also sold to the Arab country. From January to September this year, Brazil imported only USD 200 million in products from Bahrain, primarily aluminum and oil.
