Arab colony: 7% of the Brazilian population
They started arriving in the country in the nineteenth century. In their luggage was a great desire to work and dreams of riches. They came in the ships so as to establish their homes, stores and industries here. Today the Arabs, their children and grandchildren total 12 million people. They head some of the most important factories and industrial organizations. The culture and customs are in the Brazilian cuisine, music, and vocabulary.
