São Paulo – At least two Arab countries, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, will be presented as tourist destinations at the Tourism Fair of the Americas, whose upcoming edition is due from October 24th to 26th at convention centre Riocentro, in Rio de Janeiro. Egypt, in North Africa, will be sold as a destination by the El Tarek Travel agency, and the United Arab Emirates, in the Middle East, will be offered by the Emirates airline, according to information from the press office of the Brazilian Travel Agencies Association (Abav).
The Cairo-based El Tarek Travel has been active for 20 years. The agency also has offices in Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh, according to information from its website. The packages offered in the Arab country range from tours of Cairo to cruises along the Nile to more sophisticated options, such as stays at resorts near beaches and desert safaris. There are individual and group options.
Social protests in Egypt last year caused a decline in tourist activity. In the first quarter of this year, however, visitant arrival was back to growth, up 32% from the same period of 2011, at 2.5 million tourists. The figure is still 28% lower than in the same period of 2010, prior to the revolution, according to the Egyptian Tourist Authority.
In the Emirates, Dubai is the main destination. The emirate is expecting to attract 8.8 million international tourists this year, which should spend US$ 8.8 billion, according to world tourism survey conducted by the MasterCard company. The number of visitors is expected to be up 15.3% from last year, and spending should be up 18.9%. Abu Dhabi and Dubai should receive a combined 11.5 million tourists. The survey also forecasts an 8.3% increase in tourism in
Cairo.
The Tourism Fair of the Americas, currently in its 40th edition, is expecting 25,000 Brazilian tourism industry professionals. It is the leading fair for the travel and tourism sector in America. There will be exhibitors from 50 countries, including, hotels, theme parks, sector associations and entities, tour operators, car rental companies and others. Among other attractions, there will be a congress on tourism-related topics, and business roundtables.
