São Paulo – Although the volume is still low, the Arab countries have increased their investment in Brazil. Between January and November last year, they invested US$ 3.45 million in the country, according to figures supplied by the Brazilian Central Bank. The value is 118% greater than the total invested in 2005, which was US$ 1.58 million.
The Arab country that invested most in Brazil in 2006 was Lebanon, with US$ 1.7 million, followed by Bahrain, US$ 1 million, and Jordan, with US$ 223,000. The United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Syria and Libya also invested. The country received in the period a total of US$ 19.2 billion in foreign direct investment.
