São Paulo – This Thursday (4) in Abu Dhabi, the winners of the 18th Sheikh Zayed Book Award, one of the most prestigious Arabic awards, were announced. The event is held by the Abu Dhabi Language Centre (ALC), an arm of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.
The Egyptian writer Reem Bassiouney was the winner in the Literature category with “Al Halwani: The Fatimid Trilogy, whose title references the dynasty that ran Egypt from 969 to 1,171.” Also from Egypt, Mustafa Said won Editing of Arabic Manuscripts for his study on Shehab al-Din’s “The Ship of Possession and the Precious Ship.”
Tunisian writers also won: Houssem Eddine Chachia received the Young Author category award for “The Morisco Landscape Narratives of Expulsion in Modern Spanish Thought,” which sheds light on the expulsion of the Moriscos from Spain and the connection between memory and historic identity.
Other awards
Awards were also given in Translation, Contribution to the Development of Nations, Arab Culture, and Publishing and Technology. The event received 4,240 submissions from 74 different countries.
