São Paulo – From the 21st to the 23rd of this month, Brazilian companies are going to know more about some spices and Arab olive oil. Four companies from Egypt and Palestine are going to participate in Food Ingredients South America (Fisa), a food ingredient fair to take place at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo. There will be over 250 exhibitors from 20 countries.
The booth of Palestinian companies, Al’Ard, under the Anabtawi group, and Sinnokrot Global Group, both in the olive oil and olive sectors, is being set up by the Brazilian Foreign Office (Itamaraty), which invited the groups to visit the country in March this year, during president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s trip to the West Bank.
According to the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Michel Alaby, the idea of bringing the Palestinian companies came from the Commercial Promotion and Investment Director at Itamaraty, Norton Rapesta, and by the councillor of the Brazilian representative office in Ramallah, in Palestine, Ricardo Leal. “In Palestine we spoke to several companies that produce olive oil and olives," said Alaby.
The two companies to exhibit, according to Alaby, are the largest in Palestine. The secretary general believes that there are many business opportunities for them in Brazil. In São Paulo, the Arab Brazilian Chamber should accompany the Palestinians and provide logistic support at the fair and during visits to companies.
To present the spices, seeds and herbs, Egyptian companies Giza Seeds & Herbs and Arcotrade are going to participate in the fair. Giza, for example, has annual production of 15,000 tonnes. Among the seeds and herbs traded by the company are aniseed, camomile, sunflower, cumin, henna and mentholated pepper, among others.
The 15th edition of Fisa should cover an area of 14,000 square meters; double the total in the last edition, in 2008. The organisation’s expectation is to receive over 12,000 visitors, against 8,000 in 2008. Among the great companies to exhibit at the event are Cargill, Bunge, M.Cassab, Gelita and Ajinomoto, among others, to bring traditional, functional, preservative, natural and anti-oxidising ingredients, as well as fibres, vitamins and proteins.
In the sidelines of the fair, Fisa should have an international congress with the participation of speakers from seven countries. Among the themes discussed are cost reduction, innovation, intestinal health, functional ingredients and processes for the food industry, among others. The fair is organized by company UBM Brazil, the local branch of United Business Media Limited (UBM), an English multinational specialized in fairs and business media.
