São Paulo – Al Rayyan Sports Club of Qatar and Swehly Sports Club of Libya are competing this week in the Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship in Belém, Brazil’s state of Pará. Eight teams are taking part in the tournament. In addition to the Arab teams, the competition includes Brazil’s Vôlei Renata, Praia Clube, and Sada Cruzeiro, Italy’s Sir Sucm Monini Perugia, Poland’s Aluron CMB Warta Zawiercie, and Japan’s Osaka Bluteon. The Qatari team qualified as Asian champions, while the Libyan side earned its place by winning the African title.
All matches will be played at the Guilherme Paraense Gymnasium, known as Mangueirinho. Group A includes Al Rayyan, Praia Clube, Vôlei Renata, and Warta Zawiercie. Group B features Sada Cruzeiro, Osaka Bluteon, Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia, and Swehly Sports Club. All teams in each group will play one another, with the top two advancing to the semifinals. The third-place match and the final will be played on Sunday (21).
The first group-stage match was played on Tuesday morning (16), with Sada Cruzeiro being defeated 3–0 by Osaka Bluteon, with set scores of 25–14, 28–18, and 25–14. Swehly takes the court at 1:30 p.m. (local time) against Sir Sicoma Monini, while Al Rayyan makes its debut at 5:00 p.m. against Praia Clube.
