São Paulo – Delegates from Arab enterprises and countries will attend the upcoming edition of the agribusiness industry show Expodireto Cotrijal, set to begin on Monday (07) in Não-Me-Toque, a city in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state. According to the event’s organization, visitors from 70 different countries are expected. Those who confirmed attendance include the ambassadors of Algeria, Toufik Dahmani; of Sudan, Ahmed Yousif Mohamed Elsiddig; and of Morocco, Larbi Moukhariq.
The first secretary of the Algerian embassy in Brasília, Mohammed Chafik Kellala, will deliver a lecture on business opportunities for Brazilians in his country on Thursday (10) at 2pm. Attendance has also been confirmed by Jordan’s Yara for Fertilizer & Chemical Industry Ltd. Emirati and Algerian companies are being expected as well.
Expodireto Cotrijal’s international coordinator Evaldo Silva Júnior told ANBA this Tuesday (01) that the Arab visitors are potential clients, since the expo offers exactly the types of products they will be looking for: foodstuffs and agribusiness equipment. “Besides meeting their own domestic demands, many Arab countries are hubs and might re-export the goods they find here,” said Júnior.
Agricultural machinery and implements, soybean, rice, poultry and beef are some of the products the event’s organizers believe will sell the most to foreign buyers. Last year, deals with foreign buyers at the expo amounted to a combined BRL 237.5 million (USD 59.4 million as of today).
Júnior said the trade show’s success hinges on two factors. “One is the domestic market and the other is the foreign one. The domestic market depends to a great extent on borrowing lines offered by state-run banks for agricultural equipment purchases, for example, so that much is up to them. On the foreign front, the exchange rate is very competitive this year. We had the dollar at BRL 2.70 last year and now it’s worth BRL 4. We’re expecting lots of good deals,” he said.
Foreign corporate and government visitors will meet with exhibitors at the “International Point,” where lectures will be also delivered on a variety of topics at a mini-auditorium. They will also pay scheduled visits to exhibitors’ stands. Italy, Mozambique, Honduras, Thailand, Angola, Nigeria, Georgia, Belarus and Azerbaijan are some of the non-Arab countries from which visitors will attend. Roughly 15 non-Brazilian businesses hailing from Argentina, the United States and Germany will also be exhibiting at the expo. Two delegates from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance as visitors.
