The Itamaraty (Brazilian foreign office), Caixa Econômica Federal (Brazilian state-owned bank), the Ministry of Health, and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) will offer training to Lebanese professionals in several fields, such as banking technology, epidemics control, and tropical fruit culture. The effort is part of a series of commitments made by the Brazilian government for helping the Arab country.

Santana Têxtil, an indigo manufacturer based in the northeastern Brazilian state of Ceará, sent two designers to research fashion in the United Arab Emirates early this year. What they found was jeans wear with lots of stones, brilliance and details. The information was passed on to textile mills working in partnership with the Santana company last March, in a series of workshops.

Economist Walter Brasil Mundell gave a lecture on Brazilian economy yesterday (16) at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. According to him, Brazil is currently benefiting from the heightened price of commodities, driven by high credit and consumption rates in the United States. Mundell believes in the possibility of global recession and said that if it happens, Brazil will grow less.
