São Paulo – Brazil’s National Auto Parts Manufacturers Union (Sindipeças) and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) will carry out a ‘buyer project’ on the 24th and 25th in São Paulo, featuring 15 importers from 11 countries, including Egypt’s Atco International.
The foreign executives will sit down for matchmaking sessions with delegates from at least 66 Brazilian companies. “It’s a record-high number,” said Sindipeças advisor Elias Mufarej, who is in charge of the department whose job is to foster exports. This will be the 9th edition of the project.
According to him, since auto industry sales are slumping in Brazil, parts makers are looking for opportunities internationally, and that is drawing people to the Brasil Auto Parts commercial promotion program, a joint effort by Sindipeças and Apex.
“Industries are putting more effort into the aftermarket (replacement parts) and exports,” Mufarej explained. The importers were picked through input from Brazilian executives and polls carried out under the program.
Apart from Egypt, the buyer project will feature enterprises from South Africa, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru and Russia. Most are auto parts distributors.
Atco International engages in various activities, including auto parts distribution in the Middle East and North Africa, and it has offices in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Singapore and China.
According to Mufarej, the meeting will enable smaller-scale manufacturers to get in touch with prospective customers in far-away countries, something they would be unable to do on their own. It will also bring importers to Brazil from countries that do not host major industry shows.
Besides the buyer project, the program includes trade missions and supports Brazilian participation in international expos. Mufarej mentioned as examples the Automechanika fair in Dubai, Mexico, Frankfurt, and Buenos Aires. The former three took place this year, and the latter one will happen in November.
The Dubai edition, held in May, saw “heavy attendance” according to Mufarej. “We are working on going again next year,” he said. “It’s a gateway to the Gulf and the Middle East, including non-Arab countries like Iran and Pakistan,” he added.
