Brasília – Banco do Brasil (BB) is the first state-run company in Brazil to have its own solar plant to supply. With a capacity of 14 gigawatts-hour (GWh), the facility opened last week in Porteirinha, northern Minas Gerais.
Built under tender by utility company EDP, the plant will supply 100 branches across the state, saving up BRL 80 million in 12 years’ time. The plant features 19,000 panels across a 20-hectare area – enough to supply 5,833 households with an average annual consumption of 2,400 kWh.
The power gets routed to the system of state utility Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig)., which incorporates the energy into its network and returns it as credit to bank’s power bills. By the end of 2021, another six proprietary solar plants are expected to go online for the bank.
