São Paulo – The attraction of foreign resources, investment facilitation agreement, dispute resolution and legal certainty for the investor will be some of the topics presented in the seminar “Foreign investments – aspects of national and international legal framework”, organized in a partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and consulting company Barral M Jorge Consultores Associados. The event will be held in Brasília next Tuesday (8th). Admission is free.
According to Barral M Jorge owner and Brazil’s former secretary of Foreign Trade, Welber Barral, the main goal of the seminar is to discuss legislation, opportunities and obstacles for foreign investments. The country, Barral told ANBA this Monday (30th), has been adopting changes to attract more foreign resources and approved laws to regulate these investments. This legislation makes the country safer for those allocating their resources.
“The debate that we are proposing in the seminar is to show how we stand [in comparison to other countries regarding investments attraction]. My assessment is that Brazil offers guarantees, despite the crisis it’s facing. The institutions are functioning well”, said Barral.
He said that at this time, the country offers opportunities to foreign investors. “We are in recession this year and should see no growth in 2016, and investors are aware of it. And then there are the deteriorating assessments of Brazilian economy by credit rating agencies. On the other hand, assets in Brazil (companies, projects and opportunities) are cheap right now, compared with international prices. There are opportunities in infrastructure, which Brazil has a great dearth of,” Barral said.
The seminar will feature five panels, themed “Recent evolution of the international investments regime;” “Foreign investment: general aspects;” “Foreign investment in the banking, energy and intellectual property rights sectors;” “Investment cooperation and facilitation agreements and foreign direct investment perspectives;” and “Settling foreign investment-related disputes.”
