São Paulo – The Brazilian government will donate the equivalent to R$ 13.5 million (or US$ 5.477 million) in food and medication to Ebola-stricken African countries. According to information released this Friday (17th) by government seat Palácio do Planalto, the aid to be sent to Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia will include 6,400 tonnes of processed rice, worth R$ 6.3 million (or US$ 2.555 million), and 4,600 tonnes of beans, worth R$ 7.1 million (US$ 2.880 million).
A total of 10 medication kits, with 30 kinds of medicine, including antibiotics e anti-inflammatory drugs, and first aid items, such as masks and gloves, will also be sent. According to the government, the kits will be enough to help 5,000 people for three months.
The donation comes from the Brazilian Health Ministry, which has already donated five kits to Liberia, five to Sierra Leone and four to Guinea, in addition to R$ 1 million (roughly US$ 405,700) to the World Health Organization.
