São Paulo – The Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) should participate in Anuga, the food and beverage fair in Cologne, Germany, with 70 companies and 12 sector organisations, according to information disclosed by the press organisation. The fair was programmed to begin on Saturday (8) and should end on the 12th.
According to the Apex, the fair, the largest in the world, should bring together 6,500 exhibitors from 95 countries and should receive around 150,000 visitors. It takes place every two years.
The Brazilian exhibitors represent the areas of meats (beef, pork and chicken), coffee, teas, biscuits, sweets, beverages, juices, fruit, typical food, seasoning, condiments and food concoctions.
At the fair, the president of the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef), Francisco Turra, should represent the minister of Agriculture, Mendes Ribeiro Filho, at a forum about halal certification, according to the organisations.
The invitation to participate in the opening of event “Meet the Halal World at Anuga 2011”, according to the press statement, “confirms the importance of the work developed by Brazil to supply over 150 countries in which Brazilian chicken is present.”
The conference is scheduled to take place on Sunday and should cover techniques and halal market expansion. The word means “allowed” or “legal” in Arabic, in the case of food, it shows that they may be consumed by Muslims. This requires certain religious practices in animal slaughter and in the industrialisation of products.
“Thanks to the performance and qualification of our slaughterhouses, which have managed to obtain all necessary specifications for halal slaughter, Brazil is currently one of the main exporters of chicken to that market,” said Turra, according to the press statement.
