Brasília – Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro has passed a law banning exports of medical, hospital and hygiene products neccessary for the fight against the new coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. Law n. 13,993/2020 was published on Friday (24) on the Federal Gazette.
The ban will be in force for the duration of the state of public health emergency. Barred exports include mechanical pulmonary ventilators and circuits; hospital beds; multiparameter monitors and individual protection equipment (IPE) used in healthcare such as latex gloves, nitrile gloves, impermeable coats, protection glasses, caps, surgical masks and face protectors.
Besides the items laid down in the text, the government may include other products to the ban. It can also take items from the list, as long as the decision is evidence-based and cause no damage to caring for the Brazilian people.
The text had been approved by the National Congress of Brazil on March 31.
