São Paulo – Brazil will be represented in four sector dedicated halls at Gulfood, the food and beverage exhibition scheduled to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from February 26 to March 2. The national pavilion will be organized by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and will host 87 companies, the highest number ever taken by the agency to the event.
For the first time, Gulfood won’t be organized in national pavilions but rather in dedicated halls to eight of the biggest commodity trading sectors. The Brazilian companies will exhibit in the halls of Meat & Poultry (34 companies), Beverages (07), Pulses, Grains & Cereals (8) and World Food (38), with the latter being a space for various products.
“They’re following the logistics of other large events, in which buyers have less and less time and go to the fair to see exactly what they went to see,” says Rafael Prado, Apex’s Trade Promotion coordinator, on the fair’s new layout.
He says they have to wait to see if the event’s new layout will favor Brazilian companies overall, but he points out that sectors such as meats, for instance, can benefit from a dedicated space. “It makes sense to have a meats pavilion, since the buyer already seeks meat from Brazil naturally,” he says.
The meats hall will host the customary tasting place, where buyers can taste the beef and poultry from Brazil. A chef hired by the agency will prepare appetizers with typical Brazilian ingredients to be served at the World Food hall.
Prado highlights the job done by Apex in selecting the companies set to go to Gulfood. “We selected strong products to the region and companies with the adequate maturity level [to export],” he says.
The agency, now under the directions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has contacted the trade promotion sectors of 13 embassies of Middle East and North Africa countries to invite buyers from to visit the Brazilian companies at the fair.
According to Prado, this year the agency expects to surpass the business volumes generated for the local companies in the 2016 edition, which reached USD 728 million.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will have its own stand at the fair for local companies to exhibit their products. It will have room for six exhibitors. Four spots are still available.
