São Paulo – An interministerial ordinance published last Wednesday (9) on the Diário Oficial da União simplified temporary visa granting for Syrian citizens asking for protection and shelter in Brazil due to the armed conflicts in Syria.
The interministerial ordinance #9 exempt the Syrian immigrant from paying visa, registration and residence authorization fees. The document was signed by minister of Justice and Public Security, Sergio Moro, and minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo.
The temporary visas may be requested in Brazil’s consular offices in Beirut, Lebanon; Aman, Jordan; Cairo, Egypt; and Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey. When arriving in Brazilian soil, the temporary visa holder will have 90 days to go to a Federal Police unit ask for the registration of the entry visa in Brazil.
Temporary residence permit in these cases will be valid for two years. With the National Migration Registration Card in hand, the immigrant can get a CPF and an employment record book, becoming able to get access to several public services and work legally.
When reporting to Brazilian consular offices to ask for humanitarian aid, Syrian or stateless refugees impacted by the armed conflicts in Syria must present a valid travel document. Other requested documents are the international certificate of vaccination, the entry ticket to Brazilian soil, and a criminal background certificate issued in the country of residence or citizenship.
If the applicant can’t present a criminal background certificate, they’ll have to state they have no criminal records in any other country, assuming responsibility for the information given.
