São Paulo – The 60th edition of the Damascus International Fair is scheduled for September 5 to 15 in Syria. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will have a stand in the trade expo, a partnership with Brazil’s embassy in the Syrian capital.
Brazilian companies interested in taking part in the trade expo can make use of the space with no costs to exhibit their products and as their home base. It is a multi-sector event.
According to the Arab Chamber’s CEO, Michel Alaby, the products with greater business potential in the Syrian market currently are construction material, medical and dental equipment, timber and furniture, medication and food products, among others.
Syria is in a civil war since 2011 but, nevertheless, the trade expo in Damascus returned last year, when the Arab Chamber and Brazil’s embassy organized a stand to Brazilian exhibitors (picture above). A business schedule simultaneous to the event will also be set.
Brazil exports to Syria totaled USD 30.66 million in 2018’s first six months, nearly the same amount recorded in the same period of last year. Basically, the country exported coffee and sugar. The data is from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC), compiled by the Arab Chamber.
On the other hand, imports from Syria to Brazil totaled USD 577,000 from January to June, a decline of 24% in the same comparison. Fennel was the main product imported.
The Brazil-Syria trade reached its highest level in 2010, before the war, when the sum of exports and imports reached USD 594.8 million, with USD 547.4 million in Brazilian exports and USD 47.4 million in Syrian exports.
