Brasília – Brazil’s president Michel Temer has authorized a BRL 15 million (USD 3.89 million) donation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM). Both provide assistance to vulnerable people driven to migrate by humanitarian crises.
Provisional Measure #860, enacted by president Temer and Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, has been published on the Federal Gazette this Tuesday (4). The donation comes as immigrants from Venezuela are seeking asylum in Brazil, especially in Boa Vista and Pacaraima, Roraima.
