São Paulo – The Minsitry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply should promote a trade delegation to North Africa from November 19th to 30th. The delegation, to Algeria and Egypt, is open to companies and agribusiness cooperatives interested in exporting to the region. Enrolment goes on up to Friday (24).
The idea is to take between 10 and 15 companeis and cooperatives. According to figures disclosed by the Ministry of Agriculture, the delegation is a joint initiative of the Department of Cooperatives and Associates and of the Department of International Promotion of Agribusiness, both under the ministry, and the objective is to stimulate companies and cooperatives to develop actions in the domestic market.
Among the companies demonstrating interest in participation in the new delegation are producers of dairy products, coffee, chicken and beef, maize, soy, rice and fresh apples. The programme of the mission includes business meetings with Algerian and Egyptian buyers, technical visits to local retail chains, retailers and distributors.
Apart from the programme in the capital cities of Algiers and Cairo, the Ministry plans to take the mission to Sudan, if there are companies intersted in investing in the agricultural sector in the country. As notified by ANBA, cabinent members from Sudan have been visiting Brazil seeking investors. This week, the minister of Industry of Sudan, Awad Al-Jaz, visited Brasília and São Paulo to promote investment opportunities in the Arab country.
The delegation to North Africa will have the support of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. Expenses with tickets, food and housing will be covered by each participant.
Egypt is the second main Arab buyer of Brazilian exports in the agricultural sector. The North African country purchased US$ 775 million in sector products from January to August this year, growth of 64.73% over the same period last year. The main agricultural products shipped were meats, sugar, tobacco, paper, animal fats, coffee, wood and live animals.
In the case os Algeria, the fourth main destination for agricultural exports, Brazil sold US$ 423.53 million in the first eight months of the year, growth of 0.52%. Sugar, meats, animal fat, milk and dairy, tobacco, seeds and grain were the main products shipped.
In Sudan, according to minister Al-Jaz, there are great investment opportunities in projects and mills for sugar and alcohol.
