São Paulo – The Brazilian Export Promotion Agency (Apex) and the State of São Paulo Trade Union of Hollow and Plate Glass Companies (SindiVidro) signed an agreement yesterday (09) with the objective of providing incentives for foreign trade in the glass sector. With the agreement there will be investment of R$ 2.7 million in export training of small and medium companies, in the creation of a brand to identify the domestic product, and in producer participation in international fairs and missions.
The idea, according to information provided by the Apex, is to increase glass product sales to markets considered "strategic," including Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Japan, India, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.
With the incentives, it is expected that sector export should exceed US$ 22.3 million this year, (6.5% over the result in 2003). Foreign trade of the product should rise to US$ 24 million in 2005, and US$ 26.2 million in 2006.
Initially, the project will include 10 companies from the southeastern states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, but the inclusion of another 20 companies from Minas Gerais and from the southern states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina is scheduled by 2006. With the program, the creation of 720 direct jobs and e 2,800 indirect jobs is expected.
