São Paulo – Despite the challenge of the increased animal feed costs, Brazilian companies are expected to step up their poultry exports by 7.5% in 2021. The forecast was made public on Wednesday (29) by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) in a press conference. Pictured, chicken cooking in China, Brazil’s largest poultry importer.
In addition to this increase from last year, the association forecasts a 3.5% increase in 2022 exports from 2021. This means Brazil could export 4.5-4.55 million tonnes of poultry in 2021 and 4.55-4.65 million tonnes of poultry next year.
Year to date through August, Brazil exported 3 million tonnes of poultry, up 7.6% from 2.8 million tonnes a year ago. Revenues were up by 18.2% to USD 4.8 billion. China was the top destination, followed by Saudi Arabia, Japan, United Arab Emirates, and South Africa.
ABPA chair Ricardo Santin talked to journalists on the resilience of the industry that provided food on the table of Brazilians during the pandemic while also exporting. The segment faces higher production costs caused by increased animal feed prices, particularly maize.
