Rio de Janeiro – The unemployment rate in Brazil was 11.8% in June-August, down from 12.1% from a year ago and 12.3% in March-May 2019.
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released the numbers this Friday (27) in its national household sampling survey (Pnad Contínua).
The number of unemployed people reached 12.6 million in August, down 3.2% (or 419,000) from May (13 million), but stable from August last year.
At the end of August, 93.6 million workers had jobs, up 0.7% from May (up 684,000) and 2% from August last year (up 1.84 million people)
