Brasília – National secretary of Aquaculture and Fishery, Jorge Seif Júnior, said on Thursday (11) that he is determined to include Brazil among the world’s leading seafood producers. He highlighted Brazilian coast’ vastitude. Seif talked during a live transmission on social media. “We have everything it takes to be a world’s leader [in seafood production],” saying that Brazil will follow the example of China, which is one of the world’s largest fish producers.
“We need to make Brazil great not only in grains and other proteins but also in seafood production,” said the secretary. “With all this potential, we have to grow.” According to Seif, biological limits will be respected in order to not compromise either the biomass or the species. Seif said the seafood production may also help the pharmaceutical industry, for example. According to him, the country doesn’t have a national industry that is able to produce drugs with tilapia’s skin.
