São Paulo – Brazil’s beef export price slide was reflected in the revenue from May’s shipments. Figures released Friday (9) by beef industry group Abrafrigo showed that the average value of the tonne exported by the Latin American country last month stood at USD 4,805, down from USD 6,030 in May 2022.
So, export revenue shrank by 11% year on year, to USD 965.2 million. Volumes increased by 11%, to 200,800 tonnes year on year.
Year-to-date exports reached 840,400 tonnes for USD 3.847 billion. Revenue was down 24%, and volume was down 8% from a year earlier. Year to date through May, the average price of the tonne was also smaller than last year’s, from USD 5,593 to USD 4,578.
China was the leading buyer year to date. Out of the Arab countries, Egypt was the fourth largest buyer at 38,500 tonnes, down 42.3%. The United Arab Emirates was sixth at 22,800 tonnes, up 5.3%.
