São Paulo – Companies active in industry cluster Polo Industrial de Manaus (PIM), in Amazonas, Brazil made a combined 81,590 bicycles in September, up 25.7% year-on-year, the Brazilian Association of Motorcycle, Moped and Bicycle Manufacturers (Abraciclo) reported this Thursday (11).
Year-to-date through September, 578,449 units were made, up 16% year-on-year. “This positive scenario is coming to pass due to the growing use of bicycles for mobility, sports and leisure,” an Abraciclo press release quoted its vice president for Bicycles Cyro Gazola as saying.
The association said it changed its output growth forecast from 9% to 15% in 2018 from 2017. If this proves true, whole-year output should be 765,000 units.
Foreign trade
Brazil exported 1,775 bicycles in September, up 15.5% year-on-year; 6,371 units were imported, down 67.2%.
Year-to-date through September, 9,181 bicycles got shipped from Brazil, up 16.3% year-on-year, with the bulk of sales going to Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia. During that time, 82,366 bicycles got imported to Brazil, down 11.2% and coming mostly from China, Taiwan and Cambodia.
