Cairo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the General Organization for Export and Import Control of Egypt (GOEIC) closed an agreement to facilitate services to Brazilian companies intending to enter the Egyptian market.
According to the Institutional Relations and Regional Offices manager of the ABCC, Fernanda Baltazar, who is on a mission to Cairo, the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the ABCC and the GOEIC in 2016, to foster the development of trade relations between Brazil and Egypt was agreed with the president of the Egyptian organization, Essam El Nagar. The discussion on the matter took place during a meeting this Thursday (2) at the GOEIC headquarters, with the presence of the regional director and head of the ABCC Office in Cairo, Michael Gamal, and the director of International Relations of the Egyptian organization, Rania Mohamed Hagrass.
At the meeting, Egypt’s latest decisions in foreign trade were discussed, including decree number 43 to register industries interested in entering the Egyptian market through the GOEIC. It was agreed the ABCC Office in Cairo will be responsible for representing Brazilian companies for registration with the GOEIC and carrying out the process through a streamlined mechanism.
Baltazar invited the president of the GOEIC to participate in the Brazil–Arab Countries Economic Forum, to be held in Brazil in July when the renewal of the MoU between the two institutions is expected to be signed.
The ABCC executive spoke on the importance of creating a cooperation mechanism between the Brazilian organization and the GOEIC to train and bring Egyptian and Brazilian companies together, matters which could be included in the agreement. At the meeting, the representatives decided the organization of seminars with Egyptian business people at the GOEIC to explain how products from Egypt can enter Brazil and others about the entry of Brazilian products into Egypt.
According to Baltazar, despite the increase in the volume of Egyptian exports to Brazil, reaching over USD 500 million last year, there are great opportunities to triple that number, and the ABCC has numerous mechanisms to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and Brazil, especially under the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the Arab country, which came into force in 2017.
