São Paulo – Year-to-date through July, Brazilian coffee sales to the Arab countries remained strong. Exports surpassed 990,000 60-kg bags, up 48% year-on-year, the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) reported this Friday (19). Revenue from the sales to the bloc also increased, to USD 116 million, up 15% from a year ago.
The increase had already been seen when Brazilian sales to the Arab ended H1 2019 at a 54% year-on-year increase.
Year-to-date through July, total coffee exports from Brazil hit a record high over the last five years for the period, reaching 23,5 million bags, up 37.6% from a year ago. Revenues reached USD 2.9 billion, up 11% year-on-year.
Exports in July
July saw total coffee exports hitting 3.2 million bags, up 28.2% year-on-year. It’s the biggest volume for a July in five years.
The exports grossed USD 378.2 million, up 51% year-on-year. The average bag price was USD 119.7 per bag, down 18% from a year ago.
“Shipped volume in July show that Brazil keeps going strong and works on exporting sustainable, high-quality coffee. One of the highlights was the increase in exports to the United States and Germany, now the largest importers of Brazilian coffee. The 2019/2020 crop is almost finished, and it appears that it will maintain these good results by the end of the calendar year,” Cecafé chairman Nelson Carvalhaes was quoted in a press release as saying.
According to the council, almost every top consuming country of Brazilian coffee recorded an increase in imports of the product in the calendar year. Out of them, the highest increase was from Spain, which bought 51.5% more Brazilian coffee in 2019.
