Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 1.1% in 2018, according to data published by the GDP Monitor by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV). It is the same rate shown in 2017. The growth was driven mainly by services, who advanced 1.3%. Industry and agriculture also posted growth, 0.4% and 0.6%, respectively.
Among services, those that stood out in 2018 were real estate (3.1%), commerce (2.1%) and transports (2%). Information services were the only one that posted a decrease (-0.1%). Among the industry segments, growths were posted in electricity (1.4%), transformation (1.3%), and mineral extraction (1.1%). Construction dropped by 2.4%.
In the last quarter of the year, the economy was stable in the comparison with the previous quarter and grew by 1% over the last quarter of 2017. The official GDP is measured by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, acronym in Portuguese).
