São Paulo – Brazilian author and scholar Roberto Khatlab received a Tamandaré Medal of Merit earlier this month on the corvette Barroso, which is part of the Brazilian peace mission of the Maritime Task Force (MTF) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The medal was given by the Brazilian Navy counter admiral Eduardo Augusto Wieland on the Sailor’s Day.
Khatlab lives in Lebanon, where he works as director at the Centre for Latin American Studies and Cultures (Cecal, in the Portuguese acronym) of the Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik. The Tamandaré Medal of Merit is given to authorities, institutions, and civil and military servants who have provided relevant services in spreading or strengthening the traditions of the Brazilian Navy.
