São Paulo – The Brazilian natural stones industry increased its export revenue by 39.3% in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching USD 831 million, according to data released on Thursday (16) by the Brazilian Ornamental Stone Exporters Center (Centrorochas). In volume, international sales totaled 1.56 million tonnes.
Centrorochas emphasizes the improvement occurred despite the segment suffering from the lack of space on ships and availability of containers since the beginning of the year. According to the institution, the highlights in exports were blocks of marble and related stones, with a 78.8% upsurge in the same comparison, and sheets and other pieces of marble, with a 51.42% growth. The leading international destination for stones in the sector is the United States.
The president of Centrorochas, Tales Machado, informed the organization has been working in partnership with Sindirochas and players involved in the export flow process and public authorities in search of solutions to reduce the effects of issues in shipments in the short term. “We expect this situation only to be solved in 2022, but, despite the whole context, Brazilian exporters have been resilient and contributed to the record of great figures for the country,” said Machado.
