São Paulo – The American University in Beirut (AUB) is accepting enrolments for its summer Arabic course for non-Lebanese university student. The course will last from June 21 to August 9 and the deadline for enrolment is April 12.
Students have the option of enrolling for the Arab Language and Culture Program or for the Colloquial Lebanese Arabic Program. The former combines classical and colloquial Arabic, while the latter focuses solely on the colloquial variety of the language.
Classical Arabic is used on newspapers, magazines and in formal situations such as political events. Colloquial Arabic is the language spoken by people on a day-to-day basis.
The Arab Language and Culture Program costs USD 4,925 and the Lebanese Colloquial Arabic Program goes for USD 3,284. The cost includes classes, internet access and field trips. Additional fees apply for on-campus accommodation and health insurance.
The Arab Language and Culture Program comprises seven levels: Elementary, High Elementary, Intermediate, High Intermediate, Advanced, High Advanced, and Superior. Students looking to apply for non-Elementary levels are required to submit a 150-200 word composition in Arabic to test their knowledge.
