Rio de Janeiro – Students from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) are finalists for the second year on end in the CO2 Minus Challenge, a global contest from the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE). The Brazilian students’ Team Mauá is up against graduate and postgraduate students from renowned universities around the world. Pictured above is Team Mauá during an online meeting.
The contest entails a technical and financial proposal for development of a subsurface oil resource with zero net carbon emissions to underscore the oil industry’s commitment to society and the environment. The UFF team will compete in the finals remotely on November 9.
Last year saw Team Mauá focus on innovation. During the early stages of the contest this year, Team Mauá’s work was hailed by organizers as the “most holistic and creative solution.” Team members are Oil Engineering students Clara Natalino, Higor Esmeraldo, Luiz Felipe Ribeiro and Marco Gemaque, and Geophysics student Davy Brandão. Rogério Santos is the team’s supervisor.
