São Paulo – Tourism in Brazil grew 12% in 2021 in comparison with the previous year, shows a survey of the Tourism Council of the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services, and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP). The percentage represents a billing of BRL 152.4 billion (USD 30 billion). The volume, however, is still below that verified in 2019, when the sum reached BRL 201.2 billion, 24.2% more.
Air transport was the activity with the highest growth, with a high of 28% and an annual turnover of BRL 37.7 billion. Next is the accommodation and food group, with a 13.1% increase in sales, totaling BRL 45.2 billion. The other segments that had an increase in 2021 were water transportation (8.8%), land transportation (7.2%), car rental, agencies and operators (2.5%), and cultural, recreational, and sports activities (1.6%).
These were the activities with the most retraction in 2020, which explains, in part, the most expressive increases. For FecomercioSP, however, a “solid recovery” is observed with the advance of vaccination. The survey is based on the Annual Services Survey and updated data with the variations of the Monthly Services Survey of the government statistics agency IBGE.
