Brasília – A Brazilian small business trade mission to China, under the aegis of the Export Promotion Agency (Apex), has closed deals worth US$462 million. "This is without a doubt the biggest success by Apex in the Lula government," declared Juan Quirós, the agency president.
The negotiations involved 100 Brazilian businessmen representing 85 small businesses and a total of 1,200 Chinese businessmen representing 536 businesses.
Spokesmen for Apex say they expect even more business next year. The areas that are most promising for export expansion are food, cosmetics, medical-hospital equipment, beverages, footwear, software and furniture. The idea is to strengthen Chinese purchases in areas where Brazil already is a big exporter: coffee, cachaça and meats (beef, chicken and fish).
