São Paulo – Brazilian vehicle exports totaled 33,500 units in June, down 9.4% over May, but up 72.6% compared to the same month in 2020, when only 19,400 cars were shipped abroad. The information was released this Wednesday (7) by the Brazilian Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA). In the first half of 2021, exports grew 67.5%, with the sale of 200,100 vehicles. In the same period last year, the figure was 119,500.
In June, Brazilian production in the sector was 166,900 units, 13.4% less than the previous month, with 192,800 units. In comparison with June 2020, when 98,400 vehicles were produced, there was a 69.6% increase. In the first half of 2021, the production output was 1,148,500 motor vehicles, 57.5% higher than in the first half of last year, when this number was 729,300.
According to the president of ANFAVEA, Luiz Carlos Moraes, the drop in production is due to the low supply of semiconductors, affecting industries worldwide. “I believe that the lack of semiconductors prevented the production of 100,000 to 120,000 new vehicles in the first half,” he said. Anfavea revised its projections for the year. Exports are expected to reach 389,000 vehicles. The previous estimate was 353,000.
