Brasília – With the dollar hike, Brazilians are spending less abroad. According to data the Central Bank of Brazil (BC, acronym in Portuguese) released this Monday (25), expenses in international travels reached USD 1.302 billion in February, 7.33% less than in the same month of 2018.
Over the first two months, expenses in travels abroad stood at USD 2.991 billion, down by 12% compared to the first two months of last year.
In February this year, dollar reached BRL 3.75, while it was at BRL 3.24 in the same month of 2018. “People make planned trips and several expenses are paid beforehand, but the exchange rate has an impact,” said BC Statistics Department head Fernando Rocha.
The travels account, made up by Brazilian expenses abroad and foreigners’ revenue in Brazil, was negative at USD 761 million in February and USD 1.747 billion over the first two months.
